Volunteer Roles

Accelerated Reader

Through the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, students take tests on books they have read and earn points that can be used in the AR store.  Throughout the year, AR volunteers assist students selecting items from the AR store.

Box Tops for Education

"Box Tops for Education" are collected throughout the year.  Special contests to benefit the library are held in September and January with more than 10,000 box tops collected each of these months.  Volunteers are needed to help cut, count, box, and mail the collected box tops.

Breakfast Events

Helpers sell tickets before school in advance of events and/or help serve in the kitchen and assist with set-up/clean-up for 3 annual events: Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, and Best Buddy Breakfast.

Clinic

Health Clinic Volunteers provide a friendly face and words of encouragement to the children when they get scrapes or don't feel well.  You do not have to have professional medical training to volunteer in the clinic, just be willing to help.

Cultural Arts

The cultural arts committee helps showcase the artistic talents of our Riverdale students.  Committee members display art work in the school throughout the year, collect entries for PTO sponsored contests, and award participants at the PTO spring general meeting.

Dodgeball

Come join the fun!  We need help with ticket sales, concessions, refereeing, etc.  This event will take place twice a year.

Fall Fundraiser

For our Fall Fundraiser, we will be hosting a Boosterthon Fun Run.  Volunteers will be needed to count money, distribute prizes, and help on the days of the Fun Run September 7th & 8th.

Field Day

Field Day is a fun filled event that will be held over the course of a week in May.  Dates vary depending on grade levels.   Volunteers are needed to assist with running games and activities for these days.

Library

Lots of volunteers are needed to help in the school library by shelving books, filing materials, reading to younger students, and doing any other task that is needed.

Outdoor Work Day

This group of volunteers helps keep our campus grounds looking their best by weeding, planting, and sprucing up the grounds.  Special workdays are scheduled in the fall and spring, plus volunteers are sometimes needed to assist special projects.  Landscaping, gardening, or construction skills are especially helpful but not necessary.

Principal's Task Force/ Special Event

Task Force volunteers are called as needed to assist with special projects for the Principal including fall and spring school pictures, helping during Open House, and other special school events.  Other projects include copying for the Tuesday folder and assisting when needed.

PTO Hospitality

Hospitality volunteers provide and serve refreshments for the PTO general meetings and the Boo-Hoo breakfast.  They also assist with teacher luncheons/teacher appreciation events throughout the school year, as well as end of year graduation events.

Spring Fundraiser

For our Spring Fundraiser, we will hold our annual Gym Jam day.  This is a donation drive that culminates in a day of fun for the students.  We need volunteers to count money, help with publicity, and run stations at Gym Jam.

Testing Proctor

During TCAP week in the spring, monitors are needed to assist teachers with the testing process.  Volunteers are assigned as monitors in a classroom during the testing period.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Breakfast items, yummy snacks, and other fun treats in between!  During the week of March 23-29, 2018 help to show our teachers and staff how much they are appreciated!

Theater

There are many opportunities to help in our theater department: Daddy/Daughter Dance, ticket sales, publicity, fundraising, costumes, set design, or be the "extra hands" during the play practice.
